This song was written on the eve of the baby shower, 12/13 February 2026, as a gift of aroha and anticipation. After years of hoping and waiting, Leah and Mark's baby represents more than new life — this child is a miracle, a living connection between past and future generations.

About the Composition

The waiata honors the memory of our beloved Nanny Heneriata Kanoa Whakairi Terewi nee Beach, acknowledging her whakapapa and the sacred lineage that flows through our whānau. Through this song, we welcome this new taonga with open arms and full hearts, celebrating the breath of life they bring to our family.

This waiata was composed by Mai Tawhiti { Digital Work Station of Petra Artep} as a gift of love for whānau. Written from the heart, and the production was complete on the night before the baby shower, it captures the joy, anticipation, and deep spiritual connection felt as this miracle baby prepares to enter the world.

The reference to Rangiātea — the ancestral homeland in Māori tradition — connects this baby to the sacred origins of our people, affirming that she belongs to an unbroken lineage stretching back through time.

The name Māreikura carries profound significance in te ao Māori:

• Nobly born female — a person of high birth and mana
• Celestial maiden — an order of female supernatural beings, messengers of Io who dwell in Rangiātea
• Esteemed friend, respected treasure, darling — a term of deep endearment

This child is all of these: a treasure, a blessing from the heavens, a beloved addition to our whānau who has risen from the wellspring of our ancestors.
